Many locked fields in the Bankruptcy Schedules Builder take their value from answers somewhere else in the petition, such as a marital status on Schedule I or the line items behind a total on Summary 106Sum. The Related fields button shows you which fields a locked field draws on. You can edit those source fields in a side panel or jump straight to them, so you don't have to look through the schedules to find where a value comes from.
Watch: How the related fields icon shows and edits sources
What related fields are
A locked field can't be typed over because it is calculated or synced from other answers. Its related fields are the source answers that feed it. If you change a related field, the locked field updates to match.
When a locked field has related fields, a Related fields button appears in the field's header, next to the Locked badge. The line under the field, such as "Edit in Schedule I: Marital Status or Form 107 line 1…" or "Copied from A/B line 62.", also tells you where the value comes from.
How to use the Related fields panel
On the locked field, click Related fields.
A Related fields panel opens on the right. At the top it shows the field you opened it from and where that field's value comes from.
Each related field is listed with its Section and Part so you know where it lives in the schedules.
Edit a single-answer field right in the panel, or for a list, click its entry link to open the list where the number comes from.
Check the locked field. It refreshes from the edited source.
Example: marital status on Form 122A-1
On 122A-1: Statement of Your Current Monthly Income, Part 1: CMI Calculation, question 1. What is your marital and filing status? is locked. It shows "Populated by conditional fill".
Click Related fields on question 1. The panel shows the source: Marital Status in Section I - Income, Part Part 1: Describe Employment.
Change Marital Status in the panel. For example, change Not Married to Married, not filing jointly (living in same household, not legally separated). The panel shows who made the edit and when.
The 122A-1 updates on its own:
Question 1 changes to "Married and your spouse is NOT filing with you."
1 (cont). You and your spouse are: appears, filled with "Living in the same household and are not legally separated."
Column B: Debtor 2 or non-filing spouse appears in the income table.
Household size, the median household income, and the median screen result recalculate.
To undo the change, set Marital Status back in the panel. The 122A-1 updates again.
The marital status options in the panel are Not Married, Married and Spouse is filing, Married, not filing jointly (living in same household, not legally separated), and Married, not filing jointly (separated households, legally separated).
Example: totals on Summary 106Sum
On 106sum - Summary of Your Assets and Liabilities and Certain Statistical Information, Part 1: Summarize Your Assets, totals such as 1a. Total Real Estate (Line 55, Schedule A/B) and 1b. Total personal property (Line 62, Schedule A/B) are locked and show "Populated by calculation".
Click Related fields on 1b. The panel lists every Schedule A/B category that feeds the total, grouped by Section and Part. Examples include Part 2: Vehicles and, under Part 3: Personal & Household Items, Household Goods & Furnishings, Electronics, and Collectibles of value.
Each category has a link that shows how many entries it holds, such as View 1 entry, View all 2 entries, or Open full list (no items).
Click the link for the category you need. Glade opens that Schedule A/B list, for example Household Goods & Furnishings, so you can see and edit the exact entry behind the number.
Make your change, then return to 106Sum. The updated value shows in the right total field.
Key details
Related fields don't unlock anything. The locked field stays locked. You edit its sources, and the locked value follows.
Edits in the panel are real edits. Changing a field in the panel updates it on its home schedule. In the marital status example, that's Schedule I.
Downstream effects follow. One source change can update several things, such as filing status wording, Column B, household size, and the median comparison. Review the form after you edit.
Not every locked field has the button. If you don't see Related fields, use the line under the field to find the source.
FAQ
Q: Does editing in the Related fields panel change the original schedule?
A: Yes. The panel edits the source field itself, so every form that uses that answer picks up the change.
Q: A total on 106Sum looks wrong. Where do I fix it?
A: Open Related fields on the total, go to the Schedule A/B entry behind it, and correct it there. Don't try to type over the total.
Q: I changed marital status and Column B appeared on the 122A-1. Is that expected?
A: Yes. Column B appears when the debtor is married and filing jointly, or married, not filing jointly, and living in the same household. See Marital Status Autofill in the Schedules.
