Income Organizer Calculation Settings

The Income Organizer can estimate monthly income a few different ways. Use the Calculation control in Table view to pick the method that matches how your firm wants Schedule I (and related averages) calculated for that income source.

For the broader Income Organizer walkthrough (Pay Table, Schedule I / Means Test calculators, and uploads), see Collecting Paystubs (Income Organizer).

Change the calculation method

  1. Open the matter, go to Steps, and open the Income Organizer task (use the view / eye icon on the row).

  2. Switch to Table view (toggle in the Income Organizer header).

  3. In the header, open the Calculation control (it shows the current method, for example Calculation: Latest Paystub). Choose the method you want.

Note: The separate Calculators toggle opens the Schedule I / Means Test panel on the right. That is not where you change the paystub calculation method.

Calculation options

  • Calculate from Latest Paystub — Annualizes one paystub using its pay frequency to estimate current monthly income (gross × pay periods per year ÷ 12). Often used when Schedule I should reflect current income rather than a multi-month average.

  • Calculate from All Paystubs — Uses the selected paystubs, sums amounts within each calendar month, then averages those monthly totals. Good default when you want a multi-month average across the stubs included in the table.

  • Calculate from Single Paystub YTD — Uses year-to-date values from one paystub divided by months elapsed (months can be auto-detected from the stub date or adjusted manually).

  • Calculate from YTD Using Pay Periods — Divides YTD by the number of pay periods that have occurred, then converts that per-period amount to a monthly figure using the pay frequency.

  • Calculate from YTD Using Period Method — Uses year-to-date values from bracketing paystubs to estimate average monthly income for the filing period.

Pick the method your firm uses for that case. If income varies month to month, review which stubs are checked for Schedule I / Means Test before trusting the totals.
