Marital Status Autofill in the Schedules
Marital status and related filing-status answers must stay consistent across the petition, including Schedules I and J and Form 107. Glade requires those answers where they belong on the form, autofills them into linked fields, and locks downstream copies so one form can’t quietly disagree with another.
Marital status is entered on Schedule I and Form 107, question 1. Schedule J, question 1 is calculated from those answers and locked. If the marital status on Schedule J looks wrong, change it at the source (Schedule I and Form 107). Advisory checks can flag when linked answers don’t match.
How it works
- Entered on Schedule I and Form 107. Marital status is answered on Schedule I and on Form 107, question 1.
- Calculated and locked on Schedule J. Schedule J, question 1 pulls from those answers and is locked so it stays in sync with the source.
- Duplicates removed. Hidden duplicate status fields that could fall out of step with each other were removed, so marital status and related household details carry through the forms more consistently.
- Advisory mismatch checks. If linked marital-status answers don’t match, Glade can surface an advisory finding. Review the source answers and re-check the petition after you edit.
Enter marital and household information in the schedules as you normally would; linked forms pick it up from those answers.

Where marital status flows
Think of Schedule I and Form 107 as the places you set (or correct) marital status. Linked fields on other forms follow those answers:
- Source (edit here): Schedule I and Form 107, question 1.
- Downstream (locked): Schedule J, question 1.
- Related effect: Whether spouse / Debtor 2 columns and totals appear on income forms (see below).
Locked fields often appear highlighted (for example in blue) so you can tell them apart from fields you can edit. If you click a locked field and can’t type, that’s expected — fix the source instead.
How to change marital status
- Open the case in the Bankruptcy Schedules Builder.
- Update marital status on Schedule I and/or Form 107, question 1, whichever source field applies for that case.
- Open Schedule J and confirm question 1 refreshed to match.
- Run Check petition if you want validation findings after the edit. Advisory marital-status mismatches should clear once the forms agree.
Don’t try to force a different marital status on Schedule J. The locked copy is there so the petition stays consistent.

Spouse / Debtor 2 columns
Column B (spouse / Debtor 2 income) is driven by marital and filing status — not merely by whether a codebtor exists.
- Column B appears when: the debtor is married and filing jointly, or married, not filing jointly, and living in the same household (and not treated as legally separated or living separately for that purpose).
- Column B does not appear just because a codebtor is listed, or when the spouse is legally separated or living separately under the form’s rules.
- Totals follow the columns. Totals only add Column B when that column applies.
For entering non-filing spouse income when Debtor 2 applies, see How to Add an Income Organizer for Debtor 2 (Non-Filing Spouse).

Key details
- Required + linked. Marital and filing status is required where the form asks for it, and linked fields stay in communication with each other.
- Edit the source. Change Schedule I / Form 107, question 1; the locked Schedule J copy follows.
- Advisory, not a silent override. Marital-status mismatch checks are advisory — review them and align the answers.
- Template rollouts. This behavior applies to new cases from the October 2026 template updates; cases already in progress pick it up when they are updated.
FAQ
Q: Why can’t I edit marital status on Schedule J?
A: Schedule J, question 1 is calculated from Schedule I and Form 107 and locked so it can’t disagree with those sources. Update the source answers; Schedule J should refresh.
Q: Column B / Debtor 2 unexpectedly appeared (or didn’t). What should I check?
A: Confirm marital status, whether the spouse is filing jointly, and whether they live in the same household (vs. legally separated or living separately). Column B is not tied to having a codebtor alone. See the debtor-columns Loom above.
Q: Check petition flagged a marital-status mismatch. Is the case blocked?
A: These marital-status consistency checks are advisory. Align the answers by fixing the source on Schedule I and Form 107, then re-check. Use Check petition from the schedules workflow described in Bankruptcy Schedules Builder Overview.
