Draft vs. Final Petition

Draft vs. Final Petition

When you complete the Schedules Builder questionnaire, Glade now generates your petition as Petition (Draft).pdf — a review copy that includes all schedules. This keeps your draft clearly separate from the final version you'll submit to the court.

Overview

Glade creates two versions of your bankruptcy petition at different stages of your workflow:

  • Petition (Draft).pdf — Generated automatically when you complete the Schedules Builder questionnaire. This includes all schedules and is meant for review purposes only.
  • Petition.pdf — Created when you use the "Prepare Petition for Submission" step before filing. This is the version submitted to the court and includes only the schedules required for your filing district.

How It Works

  1. Complete the Schedules Builder questionnaire — Once submitted, Glade automatically generates a Petition (Draft).pdf containing all of your schedules. You'll find it in the "Forms & Schedules" section of your case documents.
  2. Review the draft — Use the draft to verify that your information is correct. If you need to make changes, update the questionnaire and re-submit — the draft will be regenerated automatically.
  3. Prepare the final petition — When you're ready to file, click "Prepare Petition for Submission" in the filing modal. Select which schedules to include based on your filing district's requirements.
  4. File with the court — The final Petition.pdf is the document that gets submitted through the electronic case filing (ECF) process. Your draft remains in the case for reference.

Key Details

  • Both the draft and final petition exist as separate documents in your case — the draft is never overwritten by the final version.
  • The draft petition is not included in the filing packet sent to the court. Only the final petition is submitted.
  • Re-submitting the Schedules Builder questionnaire updates your existing draft rather than creating a duplicate.
  • Existing cases are not affected — only new questionnaire submissions will produce the renamed draft.

FAQ

Q: Why was my petition renamed to "Petition (Draft).pdf"?
A: The new name makes it clear that this is a review copy, not the version that will be filed with the court. The final petition is created separately when you prepare your filing.

Q: Will the draft petition be sent to the court?
A: No. The draft petition is for review only. When you're ready to file, you'll use "Prepare Petition for Submission" to create the official filing version.

Q: I updated my questionnaire — do I need to regenerate the draft?
A: No. When you re-submit the questionnaire, the draft is automatically updated with your latest information.

Q: Can I still see both the draft and final petition in my case?
A: Yes. Both documents appear in your "Forms & Schedules" section as separate files.
