13. Means Test Calculator — How to Use It

13. Means test calculator — how to use it

The Means Test Calculator lives inside the Income Organizer and is one of the most commonly misunderstood features. The questions below cover where to find it, how to run it, and what to do when it gets stuck.

13.1 Where is the Means Test Calculator?

Inside the Income Organizer. Click the Calculators toggle at the top of the Pay Table. The Means Test Calculator appears below the Schedule I Calculator in the right-hand panel.

13.2 How do I run the Means Test Calculator?

  1. Ensure all paystubs and income sources are uploaded and complete in the Income Organizer

  2. Confirm the "Include in Means Test" checkbox is checked for each income row you want included

  3. Click the Calculators toggle to open the calculator panel

  4. Click Calculate under the Means Test Calculator

  5. Glade analyzes the last 6 months of selected income

  6. Values automatically sync to Form 122A-1 in the Schedules Builder

13.3 The Means Test Calculator is stuck or shows "calculating." What do I do?

This is a known issue. Contact Glade support with the workflow link — a dev-side reset is required to unstick it. Do not attempt to re-run repeatedly as this can compound the issue.

13.4 My client's income is bi-weekly. Will the calculator calculate correctly?

Yes. Glade calculates the 6-month window based on the pay dates of included paystubs. For bi-weekly pay, ensure all paystubs within the 6-month window are uploaded and the "Include in Means Test" checkbox is checked for each one.

13.5 Can I exclude certain income from the Means Test?

Yes. In the Pay Table, uncheck the "Include in Means Test" checkbox next to any income row you want excluded. Only checked rows are included in the 6-month calculation.

13.6 What's the difference between the Schedule I Calculator and the Means Test Calculator?

  • Schedule I Calculator — reflects current monthly income. Updates in real time as you edit the Pay Table. Values flow directly into Schedule I. No manual trigger needed.

  • Means Test Calculator — reflects the 6-month look-back period required by the Means Test. Requires you to click Calculate to run. Values sync to Form 122A-1.
