How to Switch a Case Between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13
Sometimes a client's situation changes, and you need to switch their case from a Chapter 7 to a Chapter 13 workflow, or the other way around. How you do this depends on how far along the case already is.
If the case is in the early stage
If there isn't much in the case yet (for example, you have just had a consultation or collected a few early documents), you can switch the workflow yourself in just a few clicks:
Open the client's workflow.
Click the action button (the three dots) in the top right corner.
Select "Switch Workflow."
That's it. The case will move over to the new chapter workflow, and you can keep working.
If the case is further along
If the case already has a lot built into it, like several documents, completed schedules, or petition data, please do not switch the workflow yourself. Switching it manually will not carry the existing data over, which means you and your client would have to re-add everything from scratch.
In this situation, reach out to our team, and we'll have our devs transfer all the case data over to the new workflow for you. This keeps everything intact, so nothing gets lost in the move.
Not sure which applies to your case?
If you're unsure whether your case is light enough to switch on your own or needs a dev transfer, just contact us, and we'll take a look and advise you on the best route.
