Dashboards
A saved report answers one question. A dashboard puts several of them on one screen — as lists, totals, or charts — and shares that view with everyone at your firm.
Overview
Dashboards live beside your saved reports, under Workflow Reports → Dashboards. You can create as many as you like, name each one, and fill it with widgets: a report rendered as rows, a headline number, or a chart, plus your cases, tasks, and appointments.
Dashboards are firm-wide. Anyone at your firm sees the same list and the same widgets, so a dashboard you build for the filing team is a dashboard the filing team opens.
Use one when you want a standing view of how things are going — cases filed this month, court notices awaiting a response, payments collected — rather than opening each report one at a time.
How it works
Open the Dashboards tab. Go to Workflow Reports and pick Dashboards, next to Reports. You'll see every dashboard your firm has created, with a search box to narrow the list.
Create a dashboard. Select New dashboard in the list header. Give it a name — for example, Filing team overview — and an optional description explaining what it's for. Names have to be unique within your firm.
Open it. Select a dashboard from the list. The list collapses to a narrow column on the left, which you can drag to resize, and the dashboard fills the rest of the screen.
Add a widget. Select Add widget and choose one of four kinds:
- Report — shows one of your saved reports
- Workflows — shows cases matching filters you pick
- Tasks — shows your open tasks across cases
- Appointments — shows your next scheduled appointments
Set up a report widget. Choose a saved report, then choose how it should look under Show:
- Rows — the report as a list, the same columns you saved
- Total — a single count of everything matching the report
- Chart — the report grouped into buckets and drawn as a bar or pie chart
Configure a chart. Pick a Group by field to form the buckets. Depending on the field and chart type, you can also set:
- Bucket by — month or quarter, for date-based groupings
- Bars — vertical or horizontal (bar charts only)
- Order — natural, highest first, or lowest first
- Show — all buckets, or just the top 5, 10, 15, or 20
Drill into a chart. Click any bar or pie slice to open that report narrowed to just that slice. A notice at the top tells you you're seeing one slice, with a Show all link to clear it.
Open the full list. View all on any widget opens the underlying list with that widget's own filters, sort, and columns applied — not the report's defaults.
Key details
Dashboards are shared, not personal. Everything on a dashboard is visible to everyone at your firm, and deleting a dashboard removes it for everyone. The reports behind the widgets are never touched.
Names are unique per firm, ignoring capitalization. Filing Overview and filing overview count as the same name. Names can be up to 255 characters, descriptions up to 500.
Widgets follow their report by default. If you change a saved report's filters, every widget pointing at that report picks up the change automatically. That's usually what you want — fix the report once, and the dashboard follows.
You can override a widget without touching the report. Adjust the filters, sort, or columns from a widget's configuration and only that widget changes; the widget shows what it's overriding, and everything you didn't touch keeps following the report. The saved report stays exactly as it was for everyone else.
Not every field can be charted. You can group by any field you can filter by. Free-text fields and custom date ranges can't form buckets, and fields with more than 50 possible values aren't offered as a grouping.
Pie charts roll the leftovers into “Other.” When you limit a pie chart to a top-N, everything outside the top N is combined into a single Other slice. Bar charts leave those buckets out instead.
Some data needs the right permissions. A widget built on a payments report only shows numbers to members with the finance role. Everyone else sees a prompt to ask a firm admin for access.
Widgets tell you when something breaks. If the report behind a widget is deleted, the widget says so and offers to point it at another report. If a chart's grouping field is no longer available, the widget asks you to choose a new grouping rather than quietly charting something else.
How this differs from your home dashboard
Your home dashboard hasn't changed. It's still a single, personal dashboard: there's no name on it, no way to switch between several, and no way to delete it.
The Dashboards tab is the opposite on every count — you create as many as you want, each with its own name and description, all shared with your firm, and each one deletable.
The two do offer the same widget kinds. A report, workflows, tasks, or appointments widget works the same way whether you add it to your home dashboard or to a named dashboard.
FAQ
Q: Can I make a dashboard just for myself?
A: Not on the Dashboards tab — every dashboard there is shared with your whole firm. Your home dashboard is the personal one.
Q: If I delete a dashboard, do I lose the reports on it?
A: No. Deleting a dashboard, or removing a single widget, only removes the display. Every saved report behind it is left untouched.
Q: I changed a report's filters. Do I need to update my dashboard?
A: No. Widgets follow their saved report, so the change shows up on the dashboard right away — unless you'd previously overridden that particular setting on the widget itself.
Q: How many dashboards can I create?
A: As many as you need. Each one just needs a name no other dashboard at your firm is already using.
Q: Can I put the same report on more than one dashboard?
A: Yes, and each widget can display it differently — rows on one dashboard, a chart on another.
Q: Why isn't the field I want available under “Group by”?
A: Charts can only group by fields you can also filter on, and only when the field has a manageable set of values. Free-text fields, custom date ranges, and fields with more than 50 possible values aren't offered.
Q: I clicked a chart and now my report looks filtered. How do I get back?
A: Select Show all in the notice at the top of the report. Drilling in never changes the saved report — it only narrows what you're looking at right now.
